Main findings from tests carried out in Madagascar

1. The fertilization adopted by the Maraîchage Malagasy Biologique at Ambohimanambola (Truck farming in Analamanga area) is 6 kg/are of guano. Among the results, they obtained 96 kg/are of radish and 120 kg/are of leek.

2. Within the SRI group of Madagascar, rice trials on different soil types in different regions of Madagascar have been made, giving an average yield of 9.25 tonnes / ha.

3. In the Itasy region, the winner of the Regional Rice Contest obtained a yield of 13.8 tons / ha. He used as manure fertilizer Guanomad mixed with farmyard manure.

4. For the moderate fruits (apples, pears…) of Antsirabe (Vakinankaratra) an amount of Beats guano from 4 to 6 kg/foot clearly improved the size of the fruits and their quality. It is as significant to note as this contribution considerably reduced the attacks of fungi and other diseases.

5. A significant difference is observed on the culture of soya in an experimentation carried out in one of the sponsored farms by FAO (Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) to Andranomanelatra Antsirabe (Vakinankaratra), indeed one obtained 65% of more than that of the piece of control. The use of guano in the culture of leguminous plants is thus satisfying.

6. In Betafo, in the area of Vakinankaratra, 16 kg of bean seeds produced 350kg those on a piece of 8 ares is a production of 4,3t/ha. This result is the fruit of the use of 25g/ hole of guano.

7. Guano was brought at a rate of 10 to 15 kg/are on a potato culture to Sahatona-Ambohimahasoa (area of Matsiatra Ambony). A production of 30 tons /ha was obtained. The potatoes of this harvest resist the rot better.

8. In Ambositra (Haute Matsiatra Area), the orange trees have their production improved of 100% after the use of 1,5 kg/plant at its third year compared to the trees deprived of guano. One could obtain up to 200 kg of fruits per foot.

9. The use of guano on the vine for a production of wine, Mac Field and Frères (Area Haute Matsiatra), is rather remarkable because one notes the increase in the number of bunches per foot after a contribution of approximately 2t/ha of our manure.

10. The culture of Artemisia Annua in the area of Amoron' I Mania is fertilized at a rate of 200 to 250kg/ha guano. This tree being especially cultivated for its air part which after drying and crushing gave an output of 18 to matter 20kg/are dry matter that testify a rapid growth and a better vegetative aspect by adopting the guano and only one output of 10kg/are without guano.

11. For the culture of flowers, at a rate of 20g of guano per pot one is delighted by see these plants having beautiful colors sharp and a better natural brightness. This for saying that with guano quality and the quantity become inseparable and are inimitable. It is on the East coast of Madagascar that one could note that.

12. With Mahajanga (in the area of Boeny on the West coast), peppers of very good quality and of a very good gauge were produced following the contribution 4kg/are of bat guano. One could collected 36kg on a piece of 3 ares i.e. an output of 1,2t/ha. One as noted as the cycle of maturity was shortened: 100 days instead of 120 days following this treatment guano.

The sugar cane culture on other coastal areas of North gave an excellent production but especially canes of an incomparable quality to the level of the taste and sugar content.

14. With a fertilization from 7 to 10 kg/are of guano, garlic saw a production of 42 kg on a piece of 0,6 are is an output of 7t/ha while that of onion improved of 35% with Mampikony in the area of Sofia.
